1️⃣Anticipating and Adapting to GPT5
At the YC W24 kickoff, Sam Altman suggested startups build with the mindset that GPT5 and AGI will be achieved "relatively soon." I felt that this proclamation wasn't just a casual remark; it was a call to action, a challenge to us product people to prepare for a technological landscape poised for profound transformation.🚀
As I absorbed this revelation, a cascade of questions inundated my thoughts. What does it mean for startups to align their strategies with the imminent arrival of GPT5 and the eventual realization of AGI? How will this shape the trajectory of innovation, and what challenges and opportunities does it unfurl for those us product builders?💡
First, let’s take a look at what GPT5 aims to achieve
🎥 Multi-modality: Sam firmly believes that video is a key aspect, and GPT5 is likely can take video in/out
🤯Much much better reasoning: GPT4 can only reason in extremely limited ways, according to Sam. The current GPT4 reasoning ability might seem like child’s play to GPT5, and very likely he is referring to unlocking System 2 cognitive ability (Thinking slowly for complex situations)
🔄Reliability: If you ask GPT-4 a question 1000 times, one of those 1000 is probably pretty good, but it doesn't know which one. But, GPT5 might be able to learn and remember the best version of performing tasks, so it can perform consistently.
🤝Customisation & Personalisation: People want different things from GPTs. So GPT-5 will make that all possible by enabling them to incorporate their personal data and apps more freely into OpenAI’s GPT ecosystem.
If you’re smart, you’ll anticipate and adapt…
In the face of these developments, product leaders must adopt a proactive stance. The challenges and opportunities presented by GPT5 and AGI prompt us to reassess our product strategies. Here's a roadmap for navigating this transformative landscape:
Incorporate Multi-Modality into Products: Prepare your products for the visual era. Consider how video integration can enhance user engagement and functionality. From communication tools to educational platforms, think about how your product can leverage this shift.
Enhance Reasoning Capabilities: Evaluate how your product's decision-making processes align with the expected leap in reasoning abilities. Identify areas where improved cognitive functions can streamline workflows, optimize user experiences, or even uncover new possibilities for innovation.
Prioritize Reliability: With the potential for consistent performance, prioritize reliability in your product offerings. Explore ways to implement learning mechanisms that enable your product to adapt and improve over time, ensuring a dependable user experience.
Embrace Customization & Personalization: Anticipate user demands for personalized interactions. Explore ways to integrate user-specific data into your product, allowing for a more tailored and satisfying user experience. Think beyond traditional customization options and consider how deep personalization can set your product apart.
Collaboration Opportunities: Explore potential collaboration opportunities that may arise within the tech community in anticipation of GPT-5. Discuss the importance of partnerships and knowledge-sharing in tackling the challenges and unlocking the opportunities presented by advanced AI technologies.
Human-Centric Design: Lastly, examine the role of user experience and human-centric design in the context of GPT-5 and AGI. Discuss how product leaders can prioritize creating products that enhance the human experience while leveraging the capabilities of these advanced AI systems.
As we stand on the cusp of a new era in technology, we must assume GPT5 can already do all the things above, and ask "What are the core values we can unlock now." We must embrace the possibilities that GPT-5 brings but do so with a commitment to humanizing the future🚀
2️⃣Workshop: Decoding the ban on UI/UX Dark Patterns
In several editions of Siam Sixers, I’ve written extensively about the menace of dark patterns in UI/UX design that some product companies use to deceive or manipulate consumer choice and how the Indian Government recently banned 13 such UI/UX dark pattern techniques.
If you are curious to know more about dark patterns and if your company or your designers are treading on the right side of law and ethical design, join our live workshop on 25th January (Saturday).
In this workshop, we explore the relevance of ethical design in the digital age and actionable steps to avoid legal compliance issues. This event is brought to you by India Behavioural Economics Network, ProdWrks, and Beyond Nudge!

3️⃣Video: Powerful Use Cases of AI in India, by Sridhar Vembu (Zoho)
While every product company in the world is looking to utilize the potential of AI to the fullest, there is a lot of noise on the internet with very little information on real-world use cases that are specific to India.
In this video, Zoho founder, Sridhar Vembu discusses India's technology landscape and the role of AI. He expresses concerns about AI hype and the need to focus on specific domain challenges, citing healthcare and transportation as potential areas of innovation in India.
Vembu also discusses improving programming productivity through AI and addresses data privacy concerns with a domain-specific approach. He encourages a balanced perspective on AI impact, emphasizing new opportunities and the importance of cash flow in building AI companies. Despite potential concerns, Vembu remains optimistic about AI's role in India's technological growth
4️⃣Podcast: Bill Gates, ChatGPT, and Sam Altman
There is no bigger name in technology today, especially artificial intelligence, than Sam Altman. His team at OpenAI is pushing the boundaries of what AI can do with ChatGPT, and Bill Gates recently had a chat with him about what’s next.
In this podcast, Bill Gates covered why today’s AI models are the stupidest they’ll ever be, how societies adapt to technological change, and even where humanity will find purpose once we’ve perfected artificial intelligence.
